Description
Old Plantation Days. NY: Frederick A. Stokes, 1921. Hardbound with a pastedown of a deer on the front cover. [vi], 344 pages. 1st edition. Illustrated. Twenty-seven stories (and an introductory poem) ranging across topics such as deer and turkey hunting, plantation life, natural history, scary tales, and more. Rutledge privately published an earlier work under the same title but the contents of the two books, while sharing some stories, are quite different. The condition of the book is exceptional for a volume over a century old. It is clean all corners crisp and solid, minimal signs of wear (only at the top and bottom of the spine) and internally clean throughout. A real gem and one of his more difficult sporting titles to locate. Overall about fine. $400 (I have seen multiple offerings over the years, in lesser condition, at appreciably high prices).
