Description

My Colonel and His Lady. Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill, 19337. Hardbound in tan cloth with garnet imprinting on spine and front, in a price-clipped dust jacket. 189 pages. Signed by Rutledge on the title page and with a small leaflet listing his books tipped in. There is also a handwritten poem from Brookgreen Gardens (poem by Kipling) someone included on the Dedication page and the name of a previous owner with a date (April 21, 1939) and “Hampton on the Santee River” suggesting the book was likely bought at Hampton Plantation. Book is crisp and clean. Dust jacket is bright but shows some minimal signs of wear. A moving tribute by Rutledge to his parents. $150.
