Heart of the South. Columbia, SC: The State Company, 1924. Hardbound with gold imprinting on spine and front cover (gilt is bright). Viii, 391 pages. 1st edition. Thirty stories ranging across a number of topics. Overall the condition of the book is quite nice. There are two small problems—a thumbprint like marking on the front (you have to get the light just right to see it) and a small indentation in the buckram binding fabric in the middle of the back cover. Internally crisp and clean throughout, and the corners and edges show minimal wear. Overall a near fine copy of one of his more elusive titles. This was the only printing (other than modern, poorly done reprints). You’ll find copies as high as $1500. This one $325.
