Description

Hardcover, 151 Pages.
Signed by Ridr Knowlton

These stories are about more than the game hunted or the fish caught. They are about everything else a sportsperson experiences in the field: the environment, the weather, the wildlife and (especially) the people who create lasting memories by putting the "wild" in wilderness.

Despite having many adventurous stories of his own, to avid outdoorsman Ridr Knowlton, the real stories are about the guides and outfitters he's met over the years. From blinding blizzards, aggressive grizzlies, and man-eating crocodiles, Ridr pulls readers into his wilderness guides' wild adventures and the tales that resulted. Some stories are laugh-out-loud funny, others are chill-you-to-the-bone terrifying, and some are just plain unbelievable, but all of them show that being an outdoorsperson is not just about shooting or catching. It's about connecting to the natural world around us.

The Guides blazes a trail for readers that will lead them to some of the most dangerous places in the world and help them find their own adventurous spirits.

Reviews:

"I have been profoundly measured by the great outdoors. Wild places are delicate, dangerous and enriching to your core for those who want to enter that wonderful sanctum. Earlier in my life I was guided through those rough waters by those who possess the knowledge of its intricacies and I'm eternally grateful to them for my passage—Ridr Knowlton's compelling book The Guides exposes the souls of those blessed to share their wisdom." —Andy Mill, Author of A Passion for Tarpon and Host of Mill House Podcast

"Great book, written by a guy that truly gets it."
-Ramsey Russell: One of the world's foremost waterfowl hunting experts, founder of "Get Ducks"

"A delightful book! An experienced guide is a critical component to a quality outdoor experience. Ridr's book does a great job capturing the spirit of these outdoor enthusiasts sharing their skills..." -Mike Fitzgerald: President, Frontiers Travel

"I truly loved this book, It was not all about fishing and shooting, it was about the experiences. Ridr was allowed to enter the guide' world and through The Guides; I was able to share those experiences as well." -Rich Mozingo, President, Chattanooga Lookouts Minor League Baseball Team

"I was engrossed by the storytelling, fascinated by all the factoids, and more than a tad impressed by Ridr's adventures. I appreciate that the author didn't indulge in a bunch of bravado, really making the guides and nature itself the hero of the stories." -Joy P

"The first chapter is one of the best explanations of why we "outdoorsmen" do what we do I have ever read." -James Ewing, Sr.

Author's Note:

This book is a collection of stories from guides, outfitters, professional hunters and trappers I have been fortunate to share a few campfires with, and even more fortunate to call my friends. They have lived and worked in the Wrangell Mountains of Alaska, the Wind River Range of Wyoming, the deep bayou of Louisiana, the Everglades of southern Florida, the savanna and bushveld of Africa and along the rivers of central and South America. Each one has a life story that could be its own volume of books. This small collection offers just a glimpse, a few of their stories or comments that made me think, smile, or just shake my head in disbelief.
